I'm Pedro Aims To Bouce Back

By Jeff Collerson

It is hard to imagine a greyhound striking more interference than I’m Pedro suffered at Wentworth Park on Monday night but he only has to run up to an earlier trial on the track to easily win Friday night’s petsnacks.com.au Stakes (520m).

I’m Pedro has box one and trainer Syd Wales  said that the dog had recorded a blistering 24.21 in a post-to-post hand-slip at Wentworth Park before finishing third to Castanea there on Monday.

Times like 24.21 are usually only posted by Golden Easter Egg class sprinters so it is no surprise Syd refused an offer of $20,000 for I’m Pedro After that sizzling hit-out.

I’m Pedro won his maiden over 457m at Goulburn on April 29, landed a fifth grade there a week later and then led throughout to win over 520m at Dapto in a slick 30.06 before recording a best of the night 30.01 in another all-the-way win over 520m at Nowra on May 19.

After that I freshened him and then slipped him post to post at Wenty and that’s when he flew,’’ Wales said.

“Unfortunately he found all sorts of trouble from box four in his race debut at the track last Monday night and was in so much strife I don’t know how he managed to run third.

“But he is a tenacious chaser and from box one on Friday I expect him to win.

“Having said that, I’m Pedro is capable of winning from any draw as long as he gets a clear run.’’

Box one should also provide Friday night’s other safe Wentworth-park">Wentworth">Wentworth Park wager in Maria’s Impact, who will carry the red rug in the www.Wentworthpark.com.au Stakes (520m).

“Maria’s Impact is only ordinary but this looks a good race for her,’’ trainer Luke Azzopardi said.

“She won in 30.11 at Wenty in May and then was runner-up there twice before bungling the jump at her past two starts at the track.

“Maria’s Impact used to be a good beginner but when she ran sixth on May 30 she seemed to trip at the start.

“The same thing happened when she finished third at Wenty last Friday. She knuckled over at the start and her head nearly hit the ground.

“But lately she has developed a habit of moving left at the start so box one will suit her on Friday.’’

The draw favours Castanea but on times Sir Lancelot will lead throughout from box five in the AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes Mixed Final (520m) at the Glebe track on Friday night.

Castanea will relish box one After overcoming a slow start to rail through and lead at the pen before winning her heat at Wentworth Park on Monday in 30.18.

But her second and third splits of 14.09 and 18.23 were well short of the 13.98 and 18.11 recorded by Sir Lancelot, whose overall figures for the 520m were also a faster 30.04.

Sir Lancelot will need to begin cleanly from his squeeze draw but the dog has jumped in front in three of his past four starts.

Wentworth Park’s 'Mr Consistency’, Pride Of Mykonos, is boxed to lead throughout and score his eighth win in 51 Wentworth Park starts in Friday night’s Betfair Stakes.

Trainer Fay Wotton prefers Pride Of Mykonos drawn wide but box three seems suitable on Friday as wide runner Swahili is in box four while Waymore’s Blues and Doo Wop Hooligan, in boxes one and two, cannot match her greyhound’s early speed.

Taros Miss should open her account at the Glebe track After drawing box one in the Sportingbet Bathurst To Wenty final.

In her heat Taros Miss rocketed out of box six to lead throughout in 30.22, 0.09 quicker than the next best figures posted by Myalla Swank, who has drawn poorly in box five in Friday’s final.
