Warren Eyeing Challenge Assault For Dusty

By Jeff Collerson

Dusty Moonshine, who broke Hot Buzzard’s Gosford 731m record last Tuesday, will drop back in distance to 565m at Maitland on Thursday in a bid to secure a place in the Wentworth Park Stayers Challenge on Saturday, June 21.

The older half-sister of Wentworth Park 520m record holder Shakey Jakey scored her sixth win in 11 starts in her 18-length drubbing of My Asuncion at Gosford.

“I want her to earn enough points to win a place in the 720 metre Challenge for dogs with one to five wins at Wentworth Park on Peter Mosman Classic final night,’’ trainer Denice Warren said.

“The 565 metres at Maitland is a bit short for her but Dusty Moonshine likes to circle the field on a big track like Goulburn so I’m hoping she can do the same on the roomy Maitand course.’’

Shakey Jakey, now at stud, is a May 2012 son of Collision and Kiacatoo Pearl, while Dusty Moonshine, owned by Alanna Orbell, was whelped in September, 2011, from the union of El Grand Senor and Shakey Jakey’s dam.

Irrespective of what Dusty Moonshine does in future racetrack engagements, Alanna Orbell is in possession of one of Australia’s most valuable brood bitches.

Nowra trainer Steve White produced another dazzling duo from his September, 2012 Head Bound-Paua To Erupt litter at Goulburn on Tuesday with the unraced pair posting near record performance trials.

Paua To Escape led throughout over 457m in 25.72 while Paua To Change wasn’t headed in clocking 19.77 for the 350m trip.

Just 24 hours later their brother, Wentworth Park Magic Maiden finalist Paua To Roar, came from last at box rise to lead at the first turn before winning over 472m at Bulli in a blistering 26.17.

Paua To Roar’s unbeaten litter sister Foxy Nakita had to be scratched from the same meeting.

Foxy Nakita picked up a bug and had to be treated with penicillin so I couldn’t start her,’’ White said.

“I am training eight members of this litter and there is nothing between seven of them, with just one not quite as quick as the others.

Paua Outburst, who hasn’t had a performance trial yet, is also extra smart but Paua To Roar is possibly a fraction quicker than the others.

“His problem is his box manners. If I can correct that he could be a super star.’’

It’s hardly surprising White's latest juveniles are crackerjacks as their dam, Paua To Erupt, is a daughter of his Hall Of Fame member, the great Paua To Burn.

Rod McDonald must have set some sort of record at Bathurst last Monday when he filled two performance trials with seven members of the same litter from his Cowra kennels.

In the first trial Dana Kis, by Fabregas from Rod’s 2009 Golden Easter Egg winner Dana Beatrice, trounced her litter and kennelmates Dana Jorja, Dana Mork and Dana Mirka in a slick 26.12 for the 450m trip.

Then their brother Dana Mosso easily defeated Dana Max and Dana Archie in 26.33 over the same course.

Dana Mosso is just as good as Dana Kis but for some reason, even though he had been there before in a trial, he didn’t handle the track well,’’ McDonald said.

“They are only 16 months old but have a future, especially Dana Kis and Dana Mosso.’’
