Glenn Eyes More Magic Moments At Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Glenn Jenkyns has been having a ball since returning to greyhound racing – and he hopes Unleash De Magic can make him even happier at Bulli this Wednesday night.

The flying sprinter goes from box one in the Wollongong Traders Security Stakes (400m) aiming to chalk up a fifth consecutive victory.

Jenkyns worked with dogs for several years but took a break for more than two decades due to work commitments.

After moving to a two-acre Southern Highlands property earlier this year from Sydney, Jenkyns is relishing being among the action again.

“I like training dogs and if you win a race, it’s a great feeling,” he said.

“I’m not so excited by the 4.30am alarm calls but the rest of it is great.

“I like training dogs and now I have the time to do it.”

Unleash De Magic was among a handful of dogs Nowra Hill-based Jenkyns acquired from mate and fellow trainer Chalie Gatt earlier this year.

Among them is Paselina, who has been another recent impressive performer and should go again at Nowra next Monday.

Unleash De Magic went winless from 11 starts but has won his last quartet of outings, including a hat-trick of successes at Goulburn.

Jenkyns is wary of the threat posed by box two dog Spring Ricky at Bulli but said his charge should not be discounted.

“It’s a massive job to win,” Jenkyns said. “Spring Ricky is flying at the moment.

“If they come out level my dog can lead him. But in the straight Spring Ricky will be two lengths stronger than my bloke.

Unleash De Magic is a good honest dog (though). Going off the rail suits him and he has the early pace.

“He has been at Bulli before and likes the big stage there.”

Jenkyns said he was enjoying being involved with greyhound racing again.

“I still use my old methods,” he said. “I think if they worked before, they can work now.

“I don’t trial my dogs. I just give them performance gallops and then put them in races.

“People think I’m mad but it’s all in the results.”

The race is the 10th and last at Bulli, with action under way at 7.05pm.
