Trevor Eyeing Birthday Bonus At Casino

By Stuart Turner

Trevor Salmoni will be hoping to continue his excellent streak and enjoy a birthday to remember at Casino on Friday.

Salmoni has Rose To Size and Remember Me Rose going in the fifth grade Betfair Blue Paws Super Series Final (484m) at the meeting,  which is taking place on his 69th birthday.

Rose To Size (box seven) has been in good form recently but the Doubtful Creek owner/trainer believes his other dog has a better chance from box eight.

“Remember Me Rose is the better dog,” he said. “She’s a class bitch.

He (Rose To Size) is more of a 600m dog.

“He’s in a final at Lismore on Tuesday night as well. I think he has a better chance in that.

“I will have a marvellous day if one of them can win. I’ll definitely have one or two drinks on Friday night.”

Salmoni has enjoyed success throughout his racing career, which stretches back more than 30 years.

The Doubtful Creek owner/trainer chalked up more than 60 wins last year and has continued his winning run in 2014.

His latest notable victory came in last Friday’s Beef Week Cup final at Casino with Rosealea.

Despite his good run, Salmoni believes Nevaeh Beach (box six) is the one to watch in the final.

Glenda Dart’s dog has won on her three previous visits to Casino and seems well suited to 484m level.

Salmoni said working with greyhounds was his biggest motivation to keep going in the sport.

“I just love the animals,” he said.

“They give you everything and never ask for anything back apart from a pat on the head and a meal.

“They are beautiful dogs – you just have to look in their eyes and they can tell you how they are feeling.

“If you leave one of them at home while you go racing and they think they should have come, they will tear their beds to pieces.

“I love them.”

The race is seventh on the card and is off at 2.29pm.

Ten races are taking place and action starts at 12.44pm.
