Simpson Eyes Treble Treat

By Jeff Collerson

Northern Rivers trainer Peter SIMPSON returns to Wentworth Park on Friday night believing he can land a winning treble.

Since making his first appearance at Wentworth Park in April, SIMPSON has won four races with Rush Of Power, Elvee Express and Pace Ventura.

This week will rug up Wild Roses, Glamour Row, Pace Ventura and Rush Of Power and he is eyeing strong displays from his charges.

Pace Ventura can win although he is in a hard race but I think Wild Roses, Glamour Row and Rush Of Power have terrific chances," SIMPSON said.

At her only previous Wentworth Park start Wild Roses led early before finishing sixth to Danish Success on May 2.

Glamour Row is making her race debut on the track, and Rush Of Power, who has had a win and a second from three WP starts, is back after a luckless second in last week’s Beef Week Cup Final at Casino.

On Friday Glamour Row has box six in heat three of the Sportingbet Sprint Series while Wild Roses has box two in heat four of the same event.

Rush Of Power has drawn six in the AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes and Pace Ventura has box seven in the Schweppes Sprint Series Final.

“When Wild Roses led and finished unplaced at Wentworth Park early last month she was coming off a seasonal spell," SIMPSON said.

"She is a far better greyhound now.

“She is a brilliant beginner and I expect her to jump in front and lead all the way.

“She led throughout over 484 metres in 27.37 at Casino two starts back and that is a hot run.

Glamour Row has not raced at Wentworth Park but trialled 29.80 at her first look at the track.

“She has been sidelined with a cut foot but is raring to go and trialled 22.91 over 411 metres at Casino on Monday on a track which the regulars reckon was three tenths of a second slow.

Rush Of Power’s run in the Beef Week Cup was outstanding and he should be hard to beat in his race, but Pace Ventura, while he is fit and well, has a tough task from box seven in a very strong field.’’

Midnight Ripple is tipped to extend her Wentworth Park record to three wins from as many starts in Friday night’s first heat of the Sportingbet Sprint Series.

She led throughout to win a maiden heat at WP on May 19 in 29.95 and went .03 faster winning the final four nights later.

The dog has not raced since May 23 but has run two winning trials since her last Sydney appearance.

"I gave her a 330 metre and then a 457m trial at Temora and she went extremely well," trainer Peter Sims, from Illabo, near Wagga, said.

Midnight Ripple has box two on Friday night and is drawn to go straight to the lead.

Friday’s other safe bet should be the Jason Magri-trained Breaker Kahn, who has box six in the Bohemia Crystal Stakes.

When Breaker Kahn led throughout at Wentworth Park on April 7 he posted dazzling splits of 5.39 and 13.78 en route to a brilliant 520m time of 29.77.

A repeat of those sectional figures will ensure Breaker Kahn has no difficulty overcoming his box six draw on Friday night, especially as his rivals are notably devoid of early speed.

Breaker Kahn proved his fitness for Friday’s race with a slick 29.93 stewards’ trial at WP on Monday night and looks a class above his opponents in this fifth grade event.
