Inside Draw Should Suit Lacey Lois

By Jeff Collerson

Lacey Lois took no harm from her hard run when second to the flying My Kinda Music at Wentworth Park a fortnight ago and is raring to go in race nine - Adopt A Greyhound Stakes (520m) - at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Lacey Lois, who has been drawing wide in recent Wentworth Park races, has landed box two and has won three of her six starts fom the inside alleys.

"I am really happy with the draw," part-owner Adele Powell said.

"There was nothing wrong with Lacey Lois after she finished second to My Kinda Music but trainer Peter Acers and I decided to give her a week off.

"We are aiming her for the Peter Mosman Classic heats at Wentworth Park on Saturday week so didn’t want to send her around every week.

"Lacey Lois has won six races but considering all the trouble she got into when she ran second to My Kinda Music in 29.69 we thought that was her best run."

Lacey Lois has been a model of consistency at Wentworth Park where she has had 13 starts for two wins and eight placings.

She has a great draw on Saturday because Prince Tanga (box one) is a slow beginner, while Here’s Roary and Ruffonic, in boxes three and four, get off the track.

Queen Esther pulled up well after her personal best 29.80 all the way win at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and is ready to repeat that performance from box one in Saturday’s sixth event.

Queen Esther has won three of her six races from box one but while trainer Noelene Holloway prefers to see her drawn on the rails, she is concerned that her greyhound did previously miss the jump from the rails at Wentworth Park.

"She has missed it a couple of times from the one, at Gosford and at Wenty, but I still prefer to see her drawn on the inside than out wide."

Noelene bred Queen Esther from her former smart sprinter Fascinate Marina, and has won several races with her littermates Queen Marina, King Sapphire and Fascinate Mary.

"I expect Queen Marina to become a very good stayer and hopefully she will be racing over 720 metres at Wentworth Park shortly," Noelene said.

Bobby Blanco has had a sequence of inside draws but trainer Dean Swain insists the dog wants an outside box so the greyhound gets his chance in Saturday night’s opening event.

Bobby Blanco has box seven and after rattling home to be placed in four of his six Wentworth Park starts should prove too strong in Saturday’s easier race.

Veteran El Caballo is boxed to score his 15th win at start number 93 in Saturday’s seventh race.

El Caballo won in a slick 29.99 from box two at Wentworth Park on May 16 and rattled home after finding trouble to finish third, from box five, in 29.95 there last Saturday night.

El Caballo has box one on Saturday and from that draw should be handy to the lead at the crucial first turn.

Saturday will also see NSW Greyhound of the Year Double Twist take on a competitive field in the AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes (race 8).

Double Twist returns after a good first up win at Wentworth Park last week, which was her first race start since injuring herself during the Paws Of Thunder series in January.

Double Twist will jump from box seven - a draw she has two wins and a placing from three starts - and will compete against National Futurity winner Rue De Kahn (box eight) and last start winner Avondale Zena (box two).
