Belfast Kaiser To Turn Vella's Luck Around

By Jeff Collerson

Troy Vella’s Group 1 winner Belfast Johnny has again had his return to the track postponed, so the Blacktown trainer will be hoping Belfast Kaiser can change his luck at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Belfast Kaiser, a litter brother to Troy’s 2013 race record breaking Vic Peters Classic winner Belfast Johnny, is ideally boxed in eight in the Find Us On Facebook Stakes (520m).

"Belfast Kaiser only finished fourth at Gosford on Tuesday but he was possibly short of a run," Troy explained.

"Before the Gosford race I had nominated him for a 472m race at Bulli but he was drawn in a 400m event so may have needed Tuesday’s hard hit-out.

"He is capable of beginning well and he came out nicely at Gosford so that is a good sign.

"As far as Belfast Johnny goes, I’m struggling to get him right.

"He hasn’t raced since January when he tore his groin but after getting that right he hurt his hip support.

"I slipped Belfast Johnny up the straight last Saturday and he again pulled up sore in the hip so it will be at least another two weeks before I can do anything with him."

Most trainers “sweat" on getting box one or two but DEAN Swain is delighted his dog Bobby Blanco has finally drawn away from the rails in Saturday night’s Macro Meats Gourmet Game Stakes at Wentworth Park.

"He has only had 11 starts and has drawn the two inside boxes seven times, but he needs to be drawn wide," DEAN said.

"On Saturday Bobby Blanco has box seven and as that’s where he wants to be I expect him to go close to winning."

Safest bet on Saturday should be Waymore’s Blues from box one in the Betfair Blue Paws Final.

Waymore’s Blues overcame a difficult box five draw to win his heat in 30.07 and can go a lot quicker from the rails trap on Saturday.

Before storming home to run down Kakadu in his heat Waymore’s Blues had chased home Zambora Magic in a near record 29.55 at Wentworth Park.

And with brilliant front-runner Elvee Express, who uses a bit of the track, in box two, Waymore’s Blues is poised to get a dream run.

Fastest qualifier - Unbelief - won her heat in 29.78 but she has box three and will find it difficult to get around Elvee Express in the charge to the first bend.

The small field of seven will suit Dad’s Ambition in the Sportingbet Stakes, making the Peter McCann-trained dog the night’s best value wager.

Dad’s Ambition, who has box seven, can handle an outside draw and with two wins from four Wentworth Park starts has the best track strike rate in Saturday’s race.

Peter McCann trains Dad’s Ambition for his brother-in-law Vince Murray, who also has the Peter Lagogiane-trained Raincheck in Saturday’s race.

And just for good measure, Peter shares ownership of Rained, another dog he trains, who has box six in the same race!
