Wentworth Park 520m track record holder Shakey Jakey has been sensationally retired to stud, trainer David Pringle has announced.
The son of Collision x Kiacatoo Pearl shattered the ultimate time standard at the Glebe circuit back on Sunday, April 6, lowering the track record from 29.27 (set by Punch One Out) to 29.07 in a heat of the Sportingbet Magic Maiden series.
The achievement a sensational spectacle to have witnessed by those who braved the rain that day, with the result made even more impressive by it being Shakey Jakey's first ever race start.
Speaking first to Wentworth Park officials, Pringle said the decision had not been an easy one to make.
"The idea has been thrown around since the day he won his maiden," Pringle said.
"When he got hit in the catching pen and then didn't come up 100% in time for the semi-finals of the Sportingbet Magic Maiden series, we knew we had to do the right thing by the dog and scratch."
Since then David Pringle has received purchase offers of up to $1 million for Shakey Jakey (pictured) as well as enquiries regarding stud services.
"It's come to the point where I have needed a phone charger in every car we have on the property, just to make sure I can take the calls," Pringle laughed.
"Ideally I would of liked to have given him a few more starts, really show what he could do, but after weeks of discussions, we sat down over the weekend and had a serious chat about it, got some advice, and have now decided to retire Shakey Jakey," Pringle said.
Pringle has indicated that Shakey Jakey will stand renowned stud master, Sam Cauchi at Rocky Ridge Farm from about mid-June, following the completion of registration, at an introductory price of $1,650.
