Black Jack Billy Holds All The Aces

By Jeff Collerson

Black Jack Billy - Wentworth Park record holder Shakey Jakey’s litter brother - is poised to make it two wins from two starts for trainer Luke Azzopardi at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

Black Jack Billy was purchased for $25,000 after the dog finished fourth in a Magic Maiden heat at Wentworth Park on April 6.

Having his first start for Azzoparidi at Wentworth Park on Monday, Black Jack Billy scored an all-the-way win in a heat of the Macro Meats Maiden, in which he posted a best of night 29.95.

Black Jack Billy is expected to lead throughout again after drawing nicely in box three in Friday night’s final, which is the first race on the program.

Black Jack Billy has had a toe amputated from a hind foot at some stage of his life but that didn’t deter me because he ran 30.08 to win a performance trial at Wenty with it before we got him.

“At his first trial for me, Black Jack Billy clocked 30 seconds flat at Wentworth Park and ran a first split of 5.42.

“While his first split in Monday’s heat win was only 5.53 his overall figures were an improvement as he recorded 29.95.’’

Azzopardi landed a double at Wentworth Park on Monday night with Maria’s Impact winning first up at Wentworth Park and she has box one in race five on Friday night.

But while she showed good pace to clock a respectable 30.26 on Monday, the Mark Gatt-trained Oblivious could thwart Luke’s attempt to notch a second double this week.

Oblivious showed a glimpse of his best form when a distant third to Run Velocette in a slick 29.92 at Wentworth Park last Saturday night in which he lost ground by running out and colliding in the early stages.

Given that run, he should relish his box eight draw on Friday.

My money will be on Molong plumber Toby Weekes securing a winning double at Wentworth Park on Friday with Freddy’s Smile and Waymore’s Blues.

Each are awkwardly drawn but there is no doubt they are the class runners in their respective races and should win with reasonably clear runs.

Freddy’s Smile has box four in race six and while his best form has been in races longer than 520m, he is clearly the fastest Wentworth Park winner in the race and was a tip top third in the 516m Dubbo Cup at his most recent start.

Waymore’s Blues, a new addition to Weekes’ kennels, ran the race of his life when second to Zambora Magic in 29.55 at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and if left alone should win race eight with a leg in the air.
