Magri In Line For A Triple Treat

By Jeff Collerson

Jason Magri believes he can train three of the ten winners on Thursday night’s Wentworth Park card - providing the breaks come fairly for Invidious, Breaker Khan and Wot Ya Wot.

Jason’s trio are almost sure to be sent out warm favourites and the Austral trainer says they are each fit and ready to win.

Invidious has box five in race six, Breaker Khan has drawn six in race eight and Wot Ya Wot will wear the red rug in race ten.

"I have a big opinion of Invidious," Jason said.

"At his only Wentworth Park race last December he missed the start and beat only one home.

"But he is a much better greyhound now than he was then and has begun smartly to win his past two races at Bulli.

"My worry with him on Thursday is box five.

"It is not the draw so much as the presence in box six of Blue’s Revival, who usually begins pretty well and crashes towards the rails.

"So Invidious will have to jump fast to avoid him.

"Breaker Kahn, who has box six, is the fastest dog in my kennels over 400 metres.

"He had found trouble through no fault of his own in a couple of provincial races in February and March so to get his confidence back I took him to Wentworth Park for a TAB C meeting on April 7.

"When he won in 29.77 he ran 5.39 and 13.78 for the first two splits and while he has drawn wide this week he has been able to handle outside boxes in the past.

"Wot Ya Wot has good early speed and is obviously well positioned but he has to lead if he is going to win.

"I think he will run the 520 metres as long as he is in front at the first turn."

Trainers Jane and John Carruthers concede Being Good is looking for more ground than 520 metres but the black daughter of their outstanding stud dog Magic Sprite can still get away with race one.

Being Good jumped smartly but was outpaced in the early stages before running home resolutely to beat all but the placegetters in last Saturday night’s race won in a quick 29.77 by Awesome Project.

Being Good is about to be tested over 618m but on Thursday could have this 520m race run to suit.

Solar Pak, Army Surplus, Midnight Toast and Mac Caviar, who ran a near record 5.29 first split in his upset win at Wentworth Park last Friday night, are likely to be jostling for the lead at the first turn.

They could cut at each other early and if this is the case it should suit a powerful finisher like Being Good, who has box six.

Although Being Good rails well she has a good record wearing the green rug, having exited box six three times for two wins.

Pumped Up Zarr will relish the drop from AAA Radiator Specialists Association Cup class to the fourth and fifth grade (race four).

Pumped Up Zarr was third to the home turn before finishing fourth to Victorian invader Hailstorm Billy in one of last Saturday night’s Association Cup heats.

"I couldn’t be happier with that effort," trainer Neil Staines said after the race.

"Pumped Up Zarr ran a great race and in finishing fourth recorded close to the 42.33 he clocked when all the way in a fifth grade at Wenty on March 21."

Pumped Up Zarr was awkwardly boxed in eight last Saturday but has a near perfect draw in box two on Thursday night.

Folk Tails, box one, is a notoriously slow beginner so Neil Staines’ dog can go straight to the front at box rise.

Anyone who witnessed Chilli Sierra’s win at Dapto on March 27 will want to be on her when the Ken Burnett-trained bitch makes her Wentworth Park debut in race seven.

At Dapto Chilli Sierra had box eight and despite being severely hampered while attempting to cross to the rails in the run to the first corner, she showed great tenacity to lead throughout and win easily in a tidy 30.11.

Chilli Sierra is better placed in box three on Thursday night and only has to begin like she did at Dapto to lead all the way.
