On Coin Is On The Money

By James Broadhurst

On Coin made a welcome and successful return to the track during last weekend’s Lew Dorsa Memorial heats (530m) and the classy chaser now heads into the final as one of the leading chances.

The speedy red brindle had spent the better part of three months on the sidelines following a shoulder injury but he slotted straight back into the form that has seen him claim a podium finish in 39 of his 46 career starts.

On Coin (pictured) Trumped out arch-rival Zelemar Fever to enter the trophy decider as the fastest qualifier with a powerful display in his heat.

After working hard to wrest the lead from the front-running Proven Will, On Coin surged away from the runner-up Zelemar Fever in the home straight to score in 30.31.

Zelemar Fever, one of five representatives for Linda Britton in the final, remains a big threat in the final along with kennelmates Star Recall and Te Amo.

All three have inside draws and are capable of using them to full effect with a quick launch but they will need to find a way around On Coin as he has the benefit of the pole.

On Coin may be beaten out for the early lead but if he can stay in touch and hold the rail his superior motor makes him a huge chance to steamroll his opposition.

The Best 8 WA Bred Canning over 530m (race 2) shapes as a competitive affair.

Ambitious Gem makes his city debut after some solid form at Mandurah and he has claims from an inside draw.

Another top performer at Mandurah, Bekim Maxim, is yet to completely crack it at Cannington but he must be respected and with a clear run he will be pressing at the business end.

Fellow Linda Britton-prepared chaser Waiter’s Eye could only manage a downfield finish last start but he had been stringing together good results before that.

Bingle Monelli has been racing as well as anything in this but her task is made more difficult by a wide exit as she will find it tough to lead from out there.

After a nightmare effort last week, You Can Dream will be favoured to rebound into the winner’s circle in the Tabtouch National 23 Aug Grade 5 over 530m (race 6).

The Dennis Calleja-trained black bitch was having her first attempt at the 642m journey last weekend and after some early buffeting found it hard to get into the race before fading to seventh.

Prior to that, You Can Dream had enjoyed a fruitful nine start sequence where she picked up five wins and finished no worse than third.

Dropping back in distance should help her cause and from the pole she will be the greyhound to beat.
