Ready For New Sensation

By Jeff Collerson

Dad's Ambition is likely to be a surprise New Sensation entry following his nippy 30.09 maiden win at Wentworth Park last Monday night.

Dad’s Ambition began better than in his previous four starts to be second from the first turn to the back straight before taking the lead on the home bend to win by three lengths.

The dog’s time was only 0.06 slower than Frosty Vintage recorded three races later after pinging the lids to land her third win in six Wentworth Park outings.

Dad’s Ambition is a litter brother and kennelmate to Rained, who won at Wentworth Park in 30.26 in January.

"Although Rained is better performed there is nothing between him at Dad’s Ambition," trainer Peter McCann said.

"Rained has a bit more early pace than his brother but Dad’s Ambition is just as strong if not stronger.

"One night I trialled them together over 400 metres at Gosford and Dad’s Ambition ran Rained down.

"I have entered Dad’s Ambition in the New Sensation because while there are going to be some hot young dogs in this race he is the right age and grade so I might as well see how he goes."

Another nomination for the New Sensation will be Silent Effective.

Trainer Darren Sultana ranked Silent Effective as among the fastest greyhounds he has trained in his 16 year career after the dog’s last-to-first win in 30.28 at Wentworth Park last Monday.

Not only was Silent Effective last to leave the boxes but he was checked going through the catching pen and had only two rivals behind him at the half way mark.

"He is heart attack material but has a big motor," Darren said.

"With a bit more racing under his belt he might get into a routine and start coming out a bit better.

"Apart from his ability Silent Effective does have good track sense in his favour.

"The first time I trialled him in a field he weaved through three opponents to win the trial and on Monday he stayed wide when he had to and then cut back to the rails on the home turn.

"Monday’s race was the dog’s first 520 metres test as previously he had only a post to post slip at Wentworth Park.

"I have nominated for Friday night’s heats of the group 3 New Sensation at Wentworth Park."
