Dyna Willow Sets New Track Record

By Jeff Collerson

Is Dyna Willow the new Miata?

She is certainly entitled to that consideration at Wentworth Park after she shattered Miata’s 41.81 track record when she spreadeagled her rivals to win Saturday night’s 720m Betfair Cup in 41.74.

Dyna Willow (pictured, red rug), who broke Bell Haven’s race record to win the Summer Cup at Wentworth Park in 41.92, completed a Victorian trifecta on Saturday night by easily defeating the Robbie Britton trained duo Born Ali, who made the pace, and Lucy Wires, who came from seventh going through the pen.

After the race Dyna Willow’s handler Tammy Collins said: "We will give her a week off now and she will be back at Wentworth Park for the AAA Radiator Specialists Association Cup heats on April 12.

"I don’t why but Dyna Willow just loves Wentworth Park."

Dyna Willow has now won five of her six Wentworth Park 720m starts and her current form suggests she will break the Association Cup race record of 41.94, set by Miata in 2012 and equalled last year by Fancy Liza.

Jimmy Auld does not have a big team in work like the Brittons, the Daillys or Jason Thompson, but the astute Victorian veteran of 50 years in the sport has a hot prospect in Hooksy.

Jimmy, who has just six dogs in training, trialled Hooksy on Friday night at Wentworth Park and the dog recorded a brilliant 29.68 for the 520m, recording splits of 5.53, 13.86 and 17.96.

But Jimmy has decided to bypass the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg with the youngster and instead Hooksy will contest Friday night’s heats of the Macro Meats New Sensation.

Interstate Golden Easter Egg candidates Dyna Nalin and Walk Hard also impressed with their first Wentworth Park hit-outs on Saturday night when they trialled 29.65 and 29.68 respectively.

Dyna Nalin’s splits were 5.58 and 17.89 while Walk Hard’s sections were 5.45 and 17.84.

No Tasmanian greyhound has won the Golden Easter Egg but Hellyeah Bolt continues to be on track for a tilt at the April 19 final.

After leading throughout to win first-up at Wentworth Park on March 22 in 29.92, Hellyeah Bolt proved he could come from behind by overcoming a slow start to win running away on Saturday in 30.06.

Southern Highlands trainer Brian McKivat, who is caring for Hellyeah Bolt on behalf of the dog’s Tasmanian trainer Anthony Bullock, said after Saturday’s race:
"That was a big win.

"He has had boxes eight and seven in his two Wentworth Park wins, we’re just hoping he starts to get inside boxes now the Easter Egg series is upon us."

Trainer DEAN Swain was not surprised by the slick 29.92 posted by Swan’s Mavis in her all the way fifth grade win at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

"She trialled identical time at Wenty a few weeks back," DEAN said.

"And at her first start here she was three lengths in front at the first turn when she broke down, tearing a pin muscle."

My greyhound to follow from the weekend’s racing is Foxzami Razor, who had no luck at all when fourth in a 720m fifth grade at his first Wentworth Park start on Friday night.

Foxzami Razor won over 715m at The Gardens in near record time on March 19 and is sure to pick up a Wentworth Park 720m event or two in the coming weeks.

See you next week!
