He's A Knight Hindered By Draw

By Jeff Collerson

He’s A Knight is unbeaten in two starts from box seven but trainer Geoff Sattler insists the dog will not be suited wearing the black rug in Friday night’s Schweppes Gardens To Wenty Final.

After being fifth on the back straight and third on the home bend, He’s A Knight stormed home to win his heat last Friday in a slick 29.85.

Mcslok, who has had seven Wentworth Park starts for two placings, won the other heat in a moderate 30.24.

"On heat form He’s A Knight looks to have a bit on this field," Geoff Sattler said.

“But despite his two wins from box seven he would be much better off drawn close to the rails.

"He doesn’t crash towards the rails and he begins okay but he doesn’t have that zip over the first 10 metres or so to stay out of trouble when he is boxed wide.

"Although He’s A Knight has never seen Wentworth Park I think the track will suit him and he is just going to need a bit of luck.

"Murtaugh finished fourth to my dog in the heats but he is better than that, he has plenty of ability and is the danger."

Hurricane Bardo took no harm from being skittled at the start at Gosford on Tuesday and is ready to run a big race in Friday night’s third Wentworth Park race.

The dog had won in a fast 29.71 at Gosford on March 18 but was flattened at box rise on Tuesday when a rival on his outside began fast and veered sharply towards the rails.

"Hurricane Bardo is well drawn in one as he loves being on the fence and usually comes out smartly when he is boxed on the rails," trainer Kevin Barton said.

"He has trialled 30.17 at Wentworth Park so that should put him in this race with a good chance."

Dark Onex is boxed to win race 10 but trainer Harry Sarkis has warned that kennelmate Stunning Ashberg could tip out the favourite.

"Stunning Ashberg is a little bit quicker than Dark Onex," Harry said.

But the draw favours Dark Onex, box one, over Stunning Ashberg, box eight.

Last Friday night at Wentworth Park Dark Onex led to the pen but was headed by El Casey and after chasing that greyhound from the back straight to the home bend, finished strongly to just miss.

Dark Onex missed the jump when second from box two at her Wentworth Park debut on March 14 but began cleanly last week and according to her trainer is usually a safe beginner.

My value bet at Wentworth Park on Friday night is the Doreen Drynan-trained Doo Wop Hooigan in race two.

She is a mediocre beginner but is a strong finisher and does not look badly positioned in box six in this quiet fifth grade.

Doo Wop Hooligan was hampered at the first turn at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but still managed to surge into fifth spot on the back straight before rattling home to beat all but the winner - pacemaker Another Sprite.

Two of Sydney’s most exciting fifth graders, Shoulders and Oxley Axeman, make their eagerly anticipated first Wentworth Park appearances in race one on Friday.

Shoulders will be favourite following his near record Dapto win on March 20 but the draw slightly favours Oxley Axeman, who won at Richmond on March 19 in a brilliant 30.53.
