Awesome Project The One To Beat

By thedogs.com.au

Gosford Gold Cup winner Awesome Project will look to continue his good form in the 11th event (515m) at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

Now trained by Darren McDonald in Victoria, Awesome Project has finished behind McDonald's other impressive chaser There's A Earn at his past two starts.

With There's A Earn heading to Sydney this weekend for a Golden Easter Egg Prelude, Awesome Project should have no excuses in notching up his 14th career win.

Awesome Project has had four starts in Melbourne, registering one win and two placings. His win came at The Meadows three starts back, where he showed a brilliant turn of foot to win the 525m race in 29.92.

He will jump from box three on Thursday night and with little early speed to his outside should have a trouble-free run.

Awesome Project's biggest danger in the race appears to be veteran chaser Crawf's Bread, who comes off a good third placing at Sandown Park last week.

Thursday night at Sandown Park will also see the second career start of Rob Britton's impressive debut winner Stylish Baroque.

Stylish Baroque was a smart 29.72 winner at Sandown Park on debut and will be looking to make it a perfect two in race three on the card.

Showing terrific early speed on debut, Stylish Baroque should be suited jumping from box one and looks a terrific value bet in a race with many chances.

With many of the top line stayers heading to Wentworth Park on Saturday for the heats of the Betfair Cup, Alpe D'Huez looks to have the first of the staying events (race five) at his mercy.

Trained by Kelly Bravo, Alpe D'Uez has been in good form of late and barring a troubled trip should notch up his 21st career win on Thursday.
