A Fair Dinkum Racing Career Could Be Over

By Jeff Collerson

Dinkum, who has won 23 of 49 starts and was among Sydney’s top sprinters of 2013, has possibly run his last race.

Bruce Fletcher, whose wife Julie owns and trains Dinkum, said the dog badly injured a hock in August.

"We thought he would come back okay but he is trialling around four tenths of a second worse than his usual times," Bruce said.

"If that keeps up we won’t race him again because we wouldn’t send him around to race below his best when he has been such a good dog."

Dinkum (pictured, green rug) won in 28.99 and 26.15 at Bulli and posted a scorching 29.75 in finishing second in one of his Wentworth Park races.

But it is not all bad news for the Fletchers as Little Grey, a daughter of the fabulously successful producing bitch Meredith Grey, has just whelped nine puppies to El Grand Senor.

This is the first litter for the lightly raced Little Grey, who won 11 of her 30 starts.
