Shakey Jakey To Contest Magic Maiden

By Jeff Collerson

David Pringle's sensational unraced prospect Shakey Jakey will be aimed at the Magic Maiden series at Wentworth Park on April 6.

Last Monday (March 10) Shakey Jakey shattered the Bathurst 450m track record in a performance trial, setting a time of 25.28, which is well below the current track record of 25.60 set by Rima in 2011.

The previous week, another unraced greyhound trained by Pringle - Master Shot - also lowered the track record in a performance trial with a time of 25.31

Master Shot has since been sent to Melbourne to be trained by Jason Thompson, of El Galo and Black Magic Opal fame.

Master Shot's trial prompted one prominent trainer to offer $70,000 for the dog.

"But I was told he was not for sale at any price," the trainer said.

David Pringle, meanwhile, said he had another unraced greyhound, Long Range, who had just as much talent and would performance trial shortly.

"Master Shot has not really been tested at 520 metres yet but he is an off and gone type of dog," David said.

"So he should do well in Victoria and there are a lot of nice races for him down there.

"If I put these three around Wentworth Park, I’d say Shakey Jakey would win which is why I’m getting him ready for the Magic Maiden during the Easter Egg carnival.

"After that he’ll probably go to Jason Thompson too.

"But Long Range would probably beat the other two over 535 metres at Richmond and these three are among the fastest dogs we’ve ever had on our property at Clergate."
