Mexican Flavour To Maitland Cup Heats

Mexico City will tackle Thursday’s Maitland Cup heats following his outstanding comeback win at Bulli last Wednesday night.

Mexico City (pictured, left) sped over the 400m in 22.38, proving he had fully recovered from a troublesome toe injury sustained last November.

"His trainer Mark Gatt had all sorts of problems with the toe but finally got it right and the dog had been trialling brilliantly before the Bulli race," owner Eddie Kingswell said.

"Mexico City has not trialled or raced at Maitland but he has good early speed so that track should suit him.

"After Maitland we’ll head back to Wentworth Park with the dog."
It hasn’t all been plain sailing for Eddie and Mark though as they lost Mexico City’s faster litter brother Carlos Pedro recently.

Carlos Pedro looked like being a champion early in his career and while he didn’t have the early pace of his brother he was a much quicker dog overall," Eddie said.

"But Carlos Pedro dropped a back muscle and was out of action for six months.

"Mark was so patient with him but when he finally got him back ready to race again the dog was bitten by a snake and died."
