Crump To Take On Egg Series

By Jess Moran

Crump will be aimed at the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg series after a dominating win in the Group 2 Horsham Cup (480m) over the weekend.

Jumping from box eight in the cup, the Troy Iwanyk-trained chaser produced a track-record run of 26.67, bettering the previous mark of 26.68 set by Crash in 2004.

Crump defeated the Jason Thompson-trained Innocent Til and Brooke Ennis' Warrior King.

It was Crump's first Group race victory in six attempts and Iwanyk believes there a bigger things in store for his star chaser.

"The (Golden Easter) Egg is definitely on the cards for him. That's the next big race for him," Iwanyk said today.

"We will probably look at bringing him up in a few weeks to trial and then come back later for the actual series. It's just too tough and long to bring him up to trial the week before the series. If we can trial him up there and then bring him back down to Victoria for a few more runs, I think that will be better in the long-run."

It will be the second trip Iwanyk will make to NSW with Crump, having contested the Dapto Sportingbet Megastar Prelude last year.

"We drove through the night and took him to trial at Dapto before the Megastar last year. He smashed the track record in the trial and ran 29.41," the Victorian trainer said.
"Unfortunately he got in a bit of trouble in the prelude the next week and never got a crack at the final.

"He's never been to Wentworth Park, but as he showed at Dapto he doesn't need to see a track to run good times."

Iwanyk was delighted with Crump's win, describing it as "well deserved".

"He's been in six group finals with no luck in any of them so to win and to break the track record was really justifying.

"His times have been super impressive. He ran 24.86 at Shepparton which they think is about the third fastest time run there. He was also a length off the records at Warragul and Ballart in his first starts there.

"All those times were in races on normal programs as well, so he can post awesome results whenever he wants to.

"He's just not the quickest dog out of the boxes and that's where he needs a little bit of luck but if he gets a right run in any race he is certainly competitive."
