Glamorous Line-up For Gold Collar Final

By thedogs.com.au

The litter sister of Melbourne Cup winner Black Magic Opal is second favourite to win today's Maitland Supporters Club Gold Collar Final (400m) at Maitland.

Glamorous Opal qualified for the $5,000-to-the-winner final after taking out her heat in 22.68. The win was Glamorous Opal's fourth from five starts and her ninth overall victory from 35 career starts.

The daughter of Magic Sprite and Awesome Opal is trained by Carol Hudson, who owned and trained her more famous brother before he was sold to Victorian trainer Jason Thompson.

Glamorous Opal will jump from box seven in the Gold Collar Final - a draw that is something of a bogie for her given she has yet to win from it in five attempts.

Despite that TAB still has Glamorous Opal at $3.50 just behind race favourite Set And Match who is currently listed at $3.

Set And Match qualified for the Gold Collar despite being run down by veteran Yo Cool Maxie in his heat, where he finished 1 1/2 lengths away in second.

Trained by John Grief at Londonderry, Set And Match has already notched up seven wins this year and will aim for an eighth from box eight.

One of the sentimental favourites for the race will no doubt be Yo Cool Maxie. Trained by Barry Evans at Moonbi, Yo Cool Maxie is making a third attempt at winning the Gold Collar after finishing second in 2012 and failing to qualify for the final in 2013.

Yo Cool Maxie showed a tremendous finish to take out his heat of the Gold Collar in 22.84.

Despite being over four years of age, Yo Cool Maxie has been in tremendous form and looks a live chance in the race from box three. Yo Cool Maxie is currently $7 with TAB.
