Australian Cup Runner Back At Sandown

By thedogs.com.au

Hallelujah Henry will back up from his fourth place finish in the Group 1 Australian Cup when he lines up in a mixed grade race over 515m at Sandown Park on Thursday night.

The Darren McDonald-trained chaser overcame a sluggish start in the Australian Cup to finish just outside of the placings at what was his first attempt in Group company.

Hallelujah Henry will no doubt appreciate the drop in class for his next assignment, but will have to contend with box five, a draw he has yet to win from.

His biggest threat is likely to come from Great Spartacus (box four) who scored a good win over this track and distance last week.

In that race, Great Spartacus got a brilliant getaway recording a first sectional of 5.07 before winning in a best of night 29.58. If the son of Dyna Lachlan can repeat that performance, he will be very hard to hold out on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, in other action at Sandown Park Alpe D'Huez will be aiming for two straight over the 595m when takes part in the seventh event on the program.

Trained by Kelly Bravo, Alpe D'Huez is starting to show signs that he is back to the form that saw him win the Group 1 Hume Cup in November last year.

He took out a similar race last week in 34.13 and looks like the winner again this week where he will jump from box one.

Best bet on the card appears to come in race 10 and Lektra Brave, who will be looking to end a frustrating run of second placings in a fifth grade event over the 515m.

At his last start, Lektra Brave made up huge ground late to just fall short. Based on that, he should be winning this week with a nice passage from box three.
