Zipping Delta Tipped To Go Quicker

By Jeff Collerson

Zipping Delta made an impressive Wentworth Park debut with a runaway 29.80 performance last Saturday and trainer Jason MACKAY believes the lightly-raced chaser is capable of going quicker.

That makes Zipping Delta, who has box one in Saturday night’s Sportingbet Stakes, the bet of the night.

Last week Zipping Delta grabbed the lead on the first bend but looked in danger when noted powerful finisher Addison Road, a middle distance crackerjack, sat just behind her.

But surprisingly Zipping Delta held on and probably drew away slightly near the finish to win by nearly four lengths.

"Before last Saturday Zipping Delta had one trial at Wentworth Park and got just under the 30- second mark," MACKAY said

"So she went a bit better in her race and as she is capable of beginning faster than she did last week I think she can go quicker from box one.

"If she works things out okay I’m hopeful Zipping Delta can eventually get down to the 29.60 mark."

Good value at Wentworth Park on Saturday night is another dog drawn in box one, Stonebrook in the Betfair Stakes.

Stonebrook finished sixth from box eight on February 21 but was never a chance after showing pace and being caught wide at the first turn and going through the pen.

"He is better suited in box one on Saturday and should go much better," trainer Ken Burnett said.

"He began okay last week but was trapped wide and couldn’t get a look in.

"I gave Stonebrook a post-to-post slip at Dapto on Monday and he went really well."

Stonebrook led throughout from box five in a slick 30.03 at Wentworth Park on January 3 posting smart second and third splits of 13.84 and 17.94.

Burnett could win a double as his talented sprinter Double Trigger, who has won five races at Wentworth Park, is not badly placed in box four in the free-for-all.

Brilliant beginner Iona Tokyo (box three) is likely to set the pace but could give Double Trigger a good trail into the first turn.

Double Trigger ran down Iona Tokyo to win his fifth Wentworth Park race on February 15 and had no luck when sixth to Ritza Ryder on February 21.

Double Trigger possesses good track sense, is a reliable beginner, and is particularly partial to the track.

Charlm Road was never out of trouble when seventh last Saturday night and has a great chance of winning the Rapidvite Stakes at decent odds.

With wide runner Cawbourne Classy in box four and Magic Santana, usually a mediocre beginner, in two, Charlm Road has a good show of going straight to the front from box three.

He has had three wins and four placings from 14 Wentworth Park starts and only Where’s Wob, awkwardly boxed inside Pride Of Mykonos, has run faster time at the Glebe track.
