A Fitting Farewell For Super Stayer

By thedogs.com.au

It is a fitting end to a stellar career for Destini Fireball by contesting one last Group 1 final in the Macro Meats Superstayers (725m) at The Meadows on Saturday night.

The Norm Rinaldi-trained chaser is looking to win the race for the second year in succession and retirement beckons after he completes Saturday night's assignment.

Going into last weekend's heats of the series Destini Fireball (pictured) had not been successful since winning the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship Final at The Meadows on July 27 last year, but he turned back the clock to beat Sweet it Is.

Part-owner Janice Rinaldi said no matter what the result on Saturday night this will be Destini Fireball's final race start.

"No matter what happens in the final it will be his last race," she said.

"He has been a terrific dog but is nearly four years old so We really didn't expect him to make the final, so to have him there is a great feeling."

If Destini Fireball can run up to last week's heat performance he is a definite chance from box two if the breaks go his way.

Dyna Kayla (box six) missed the start when third behind Destini Fireball and Sweet It is last weekend after a gallant second to Cheetah Zorro in the Macro Meats Zoom Top and there is no doubt a Group 1 victory is not far away for the Andrea Dailly-trained stayer.

She only has to jump cleanly this week to give the race an almighty shake.

Dyna Willow (box seven) was back to her best winning a heat of the Superstayers and has claims again while Whodat Knockin (box three) was impressive last week and will only be improved by the experience..

The inside boxes look set to dominate the Group 1 Maurice Blackburn Lawyers Australian Cup Final (525m).

Perth Cup winner Keybow (box two) annihlated his rivals in 29.58 in the most impressive heat win from box eight and he looks perfectly placed to make it back-to-back Group 1 wins.

Dyna Nalin (box three) will need an ounce of luck early but with speed drawn around him he should settle off the pace and will be finishing hard.

Kiss Me Ketut (box one) will need to hold the lead to win and hope they jam up behind him while Innocent Til (box four) showed brilliant speed to lead throughout from box eight last weekend and with a similar start is not without claims.

If the first reserve Punch One Out gets a start then she would certainly go into the mix.
