Rodgers Has Confidence In Remote Control

By Jeff Collerson

Doonside Dani posted sizzling splits on the way to a slick 30.18 win at Wentworth Park on February 8 but trainer Peter Rodgers says her brother Remote Control, who tackles race nine on Friday night, is much quicker.

"Doonside Dani is smart but Remote Control would pick her up and carry her," Peter said.

Remote Control has box eight and Peter says the dog is ideally boxed.

"He is a lot like a dog I trained called County Zulu who won the inaugural Maiden Classic run during the Easter Egg carnival at Wentworth Park in 2002," Peter said.

"Country Zulu liked to run four or five dogs off the fence and Remote Control is the same.

"I was very happy with Remote Control’s close second to King Odessa at Wentworth Park last Friday because he brushed against the winner and also with another dog, Low Call, going through the catching pen.

"Providing he begins cleanly I think Remote Control will win."

Trainer Glen McLean was so disappointed with Baz Will Rock’s last Wentworth Park run that he rushed the dog to his veterinary surgeon the following morning.

"Peter Yore found the dog had injured his hip which explained why he dropped out to finish sixth on January 31," Glen said.

"I haven’t had Baz Will Rock back to Wenty for a trial but he has since gone well in a hit-out on the Keinbah trial track and Peter Yore has had another look at him and given him the all clear."

Baz Will Rock has good early speed and is well suited drawn wide so looks well placed in box seven in Friday night’s first event.

Trainer John James believes a 600m race at Gosford 72 hours before My Miss Diva’s race at Wentworth Park last Friday night may have taken the edge off his greyhound.

After an unlucky third over 515m at The Gardens on February 14 My Miss Diva finished fourth over 600m at Gosford on February 18.

"The Gosford race was only three days before My Miss Diva finished second at Wentworth Park last Friday night and in hindsight I think she would have gone better without the middle distance run in the lead-up to Wenty," John said.

"So this week I have kept My Miss Diva nice and fresh and I’m hoping that will make a difference to her."

My Miss Diva is perfectly drawn in box one in race ten.

John, who trains at Skillion Flat, west of Kempsey, bought My Miss Diva as a nine month old puppy from renowned breeder Barry Wilson, who formerly trained Wentworth Park long distance record holder Slick Appeal.

"I built Barry’s house for him 30 years ago so we go back a long way," John said.

"And back in 1976 I bought the old Chipping Norton trial track when it closed and moved it lock, stock and barrel to Warnervale.

"I had a break from training greyhounds for 30 years but got back into the sport two years ago."

My Miss Diva looks the best value bet on Friday night but the meeting’s stand out wager is Chica Destacada, an unlucky second last week.

Chica Destacada uses a bit of the track so is nicely positioned in box seven for race three.

After a scorching all-the-way win over 515m at Gosford in near record time on February 18, Chica Destacada was sent out an odds-on favourite for her Wentworth Park debut on Saturday night.

But after jumping smartly from box five she knuckled over and lost at least two lengths before storming home to finish a close second to Evade in a handy 30.30.
