Smart Valentino Succumbs To Suspected Spider Bite

2013 Group 1 National Distance Champion Smart Valentino has tragically passed away from a suspected spider bite.

Trainer Mark Swift trialled Smart Valentino on Sunday morning and that afternoon he was fine.

However, the next morning Mark found Smart Valentino in a distressed state in his kennel and he was taken to his local vet, who referred him to the Sash Animal Hospital in Sydney.

Sash contacted the Swifts this morning to inform them Smart Valentino had passed away.

While a spider bite is believed to be the cause of death, at this time it is not definite.

Smart Valentino raced 37 times for 15 wins and 12 placing with $155,275 in stake earnings.
