Vale - Jack Bell

By GRNSW

Long-time greyhound racing trainer and administrator Jack Bell passed away last Friday.

Jack, who was awarded the inaugural Allen Wheeler Medal that recognises an individual who has performed with distinction within the greyhound racing industry, was a successful trainer who served as a director of the NSW National Coursing Association (NCA) for a period of 38 years from 1948 to 1986, including 18 years as treasurer.

He was made a Life member of the NCA in 1972.

Jack’s involvement in greyhound racing started in 1925 at age 11 when he became involved in live coursing, and at age 24 acquired a dog called Halevy who went on to win the 1939 Derby at the Plumpton track.

Jack was also at the first ever mechanical tin hare race at Harold Park on May 28, 1927 when he was just 13 years of age.

In all, Jack was associated with the greyhound racing industry for 83 years.

GRNSW would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the late Jack Bell.
