Magri Lands A Double At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Shiloh Princess never made it to the racetrack but the impeccably bred greyhound looks set to become a top producer judging by Misty Day’s impressive win at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Having only her second start for trainer Jason Magri, Misty Day dashed around early leader He’s Rising Fast going through the catching pen to win in a smart 29.87.

After the race, owner Frank Digiorgio said he had bought Misty Day’s dam, Shiloh Princess, because she was by Hallucinate from the outstanding producer Stylish Scene.

"One thing after another went wrong and Shiloh Princess didn’t race but when she came in season I mated her to the Victorian dog Enry Walt.

"I was a huge fan of that dog when he was racing and I believe Shiloh Princess was only his second mating but the whole litter can run, and Misty Day has now won four of 11 starts."

Misty Day was the first leg of a winning double for Jason Magri who landed the final event with Pulverize in a best of the night 29.77.

Pulverize, formerly trained in Melbourne by Darren McDonald, is another newcomer to the Magri kennels and on Saturday was having only his third start for Jason.

"The dog trialled 30.30 at Richmond at his first run for Jason and then won there before getting hurt when he finished fourth at that track on January 11," Jason’s brother Ray Magri said.

"But then he trialled well at Wentworth Park before tonight’s win."

Muswellbrook trainer Peter Quinton believes a slight drop in weight was the catalyst for Hayde And Jase’s fastest Wentworth Park time on Saturday night.

Hayde And Jase has won only three of 28 provincial starts but relishes Wentworth Park and Saturday’s all-the-way win took his record at headquarters to two wins and two placings from eight starts.

The dog’s previous Wentworth Park win was in 30.39 but he reduced that time to 30.28 on Saturday and Peter attributed that to a new racing weight.

"He has been racing at between 35.5 and 35.7 kilos but was down to 35.2 tonight," Peter said after the race.

Hayde And Jase’s win gave Peter a $6,050 payout as apart from the $5,450 first prizemoney the greyhound was Saturday night’s $600 jackpot dog.

Bulli Gold Plate winner Gradence had to be scratched from Saturday’s main Wentworth Park sprint and the dog’s co-trainer Daniel Gatt conceded the dog’s wrist injury was a worry.

"It blew up after the Bulli win on January 29 and while there doesn’t seem to be any bone damage it looks like the ligaments were affected," Daniel said.

"The swelling has started to go down but Gradence turns four in May so at his age an injury like this is a concern."

Cawbourne Havoc suffers chronic wrist problems but the dog was able to shrug them off with an all-the-way win in a near personal best time of 29.84 at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

See you next week!
