Above Average Vixen Hard To Beat At Grafton

By Noel Ovington

Jimary Vixen recorded the fastest heat win at Grafton a fortnight ago and from box three again looks hard to beat in the Centaj Electrical Betfair Blue Paws Final (480m) tonight.

At only her fourth race start, Jimary Vixen led throughout from box one to win her heat in 27.35.

Trainer Malcolm Ross - from Fairy Hill in the Casino district - said he believes Jimary Vixen is above average and is bred to stay.

"She runs a strong 500m now and she has only had four starts and I'm hoping she'll eventually run a strong 700m," he said.

"She won her in 30.14 at Lismore and her run home time was very good which shows she might get over more ground."

Jimary Vixen moves to box three for tonight's final and Ross expects her to be hard to beat.

"She did want to get off the track a bit in her heat but she had never been from the 480m boxes before so I put it down to that," he said.

Jimary Vixen is drawn between moderate beginners so should get a good run to the first turn.

"I'm hoping she's in the first couple around that first turn and if she does hopefully she'll just explode from there," Ross said.

"The main aim for her is the (Group 3) Nowra Summer Puppy Classic heats (March 17).

"I have paid up for the whole litter of five. My wife and I bred the litter and since we've broke them in they have all showed ability.

"The other four look to be above average as well. Three are unraced and one (Jimary Cougar) finished third over the 420m at Lismore the night Jimary Vixen won. He ran home hard and was drawn in box one the following week but I had to scratch him because he was injured.

"I'm hoping to head down to Nowra in the next couple of weeks to give them a look at the track and if they trial well I may head back down and race them there before the Puppy Classic."
