Billy Can Bounce Back

By Jeff Collerson

Bleiswijk Billy’s impressive record of nine wins from 11 starts was tarnished slightly at Wentworth Park last Friday night but the consistent sprinter is set to bounce back by taking out tonight’s Adopt A Greyhound Stakes.

Bleiswijk Billy has box six and although he would be better suited drawn nearer the rails, the front-running railer Make A Fifty (box five) should give him a nice cart across in the run to the first turn.

Majella Ferguson, who trains Bleiswijk Billy for Danny Mulligan, said: 'Being in race nine won’t worry him because he is a very placid dog in the kennels.

"I was confident Bleiswijk Billy would win last week but the greyhound drawn inside him ran wide going to the first turn and took him out of the race.

"Bleiswijk Billy had only trialled 30.58 in a previous solo trial at Wenty but I’ve discovered that he doesn’t trial well on his own, he is a real race dog.

"He is a very good greyhound and with a clear run this week I expect him to win."

Trainer Christine Proctor had a big year in 2013 and the Londonderry trainer has started 2014 off in the same vein.

She should continue her good trot by taking out Friday night’s tab.com.au Stakes at Wentworth Park with Inner City.

The dog staged an amazing performance to win over 520m at Nowra on Monday, coming from last and circling the field to win by seven lengths in a slick 30.29.

"When Inner City ran second at his first Wentworth Park start earlier this month it was the first time he had been out of the starting boxes there," Christine said.

"All he had previously was a box-to-box hit-out so he should be improved.

"Actually he jumped better at Wentworth Park than he normally does so I hope he can do it again this week.

"I train Inner City and Bessy Boo, who has won a race in town, for Gary Rolph, a newcomer to the sport who formed a syndicate and asked me to train these two greyhounds."

Best boxed runners on Friday night are Stiff Arm and Big Knocka, who will each carry the red rug.

Big Knocka is in the Sportingbet Gosford to City final while Stiff Arm contests the AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes.

Big Knocka made the pace at his only Wentworth Park start on December 27, setting up a big early lead before finishing second to Cosmo Jarvis.

In his heat of Friday’s race he led throughout to clock 30.10, with Black Bravo setting the time standard at 30.02.

But in Friday’s final Black Bravo has box five and has to contend with Crazy Rascal, who veers right at the start, in box four.

Stiff Arm had no luck when second at his Wentworth Park debut from box five last week and will relish moving onto the rails on Friday.

The dog has had five wins and five seconds from a dozen starts at the provincials and should be first out and first home this week.
