Beating The Heat

By GRNSW

Very Hot weather has been predicted for the Northern Rivers region of NSW today, meaning trainers in that area should familiarise themselves with Greyhound Racing NSW's (GRNSW) Hot Weather Racing Policy.

The Hot Weather Racing Policy is designed to assist both clubs and participants to ensure that greyhounds are properly cared for in circumstances of Hot weather conditions.

The Policy allows Stewards to approve a greyhound’s withdrawal from an event without penalty where:

• The temperature is forecast to be above 38 degrees Celsius;
• A participant has no air conditioning facility available for transport;
• A participant has a journey exceeding an hour to get to the race track.

In addition, GRNSW has released a Heat Stress Veterinary Fact Sheet to inform owners and trainers on how to minimise the chances of their greyhounds developing Heat stress.

GRNSW will continue to monitor the extreme weather conditions and update this page with the latest information.
